Mental Health Awareness Week 2025 (May 12–18) is a time to reflect on how vital community is to our mental wellbeing.

At Cast A Thought, we believe that connection is the foundation of mental health. Our community-based programmes use the simple act of fishing to bring people together — creating space for conversation, reflection, and support.

Our #FishAndChat group in West Kent is a testament to the power of social connection. What began as a way to meet like-minded people has grown into a monthly social group that goes far beyond the fishing bank, with members sharing new interests and continuing to support one another in everyday life.

This week, we’re proud to stand alongside organisations across the UK to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and champion the value of community in every form.

Let’s keep making space for connection — because no one should have to face mental health challenges alone.
