Summer Fun with Essex Activate

Essex Activate is the name for the Holiday Activity and Food (HAF 2023) programme, run by Active Essex, Essex County Council and Thurrock Council, on behalf of the Department for Education. Additional funding is provided by Essex County Council to extend the offer to low income working families who also require support during the school holidays.

The programme aims to support the physical and mental wellbeing of primary and secondary school children, through engagement in activities and provision of a nutritious, school standard meal.

Having successfully delivered an Easter programme, we are back at Little Easton Manor for three weeks over the Summer holidays.

Our sessions include:

  • Gaining new skills - what equipment to use, how to catch a fish, how to hold a fish and how to look after fish (all part of the Angling Trust Get Fishing award);

  • Learning how to cook their own meals including fajitas, homemade burgers, homemade pizza, spaghetti bolognese;

  • Teambuilding activities - both cooking lunch and games.

Participation in these sessions helps to build:

  • Confidence and self esteem;

  • Positive relationships;

  • Resilience; and teaches

  • Working together;

  • Problem solving;

  • Decision making.
