A day in the life of HAF

Updated: Nov 25

Our HAF (Holiday Activities and Food) programmes have become an integral part of our school holiday delivery. These programmes, supported by Essex Activate, Active Essex and the Department of Education, provide an opportunity for young people to access our fishing activities over the holidays, along with a hot meal. This year our programme ran for nine days between the 24th July and 8th August.

With 97% of our available bookings taken up, 90% of those booked attended. As a result we worked with 61 individual young people. These young people came from across the breadths and depths of Essex

and from forty-two different school.

A breakdown of participants ages show:

Age 15 2 young people

Age 14 3 young people

Age 13 2 young people

Age 12 12 young people

Age 11 9 young people

Age 10 13 young people

Age 9 13 young people

Age 8 7 young people

In addition to learning fishing skills, and life skills such as decision making, problem solving and communication, the young people cook their own hot meals each day. This resulted in 122 meals being provided over the course of the programme.

Don't take our word for why the programme has such an impact. Listen to the views of the young people and their parents in the you tube clip
