Summer 2025 has come to a close, and we are thrilled to reflect on the incredible success of our Holiday Activity and Food (HAF) programme. Funded by the Department for Education and coordinated by Active Essex, the HAF programme is a vital initiative that provides free, fun-filled activities and nutritious meals to children and young people across the county during school holidays.

This summer, our dedicated team at Cast A Thought teamed up with Essex Activate to deliver a truly memorable experience. We're so proud of what we accomplished and wanted to share some of the highlights with you.

By the Numbers: Our Impact This Summer 📊

We saw an amazing turnout this summer, and the data speaks for itself. We were able to reach so many young people and provide them with a positive and engaging holiday experience.

  • 174 Bookings Taken - The demand for our programme was phenomenal!

  • 15 Canceled Bookings (Spaces Refilled!) - Thanks to our efficient system, we ensured that every available spot was used.

  • 156 Free School Meals Delivered - We believe in nourishing young minds and bodies. Providing healthy meals is a cornerstone of our programme.

We even had a waiting list of 46 eager participants! We're already planning how we can expand to meet this growing demand in future programmes. It's clear that these opportunities are crucial for our community.

Reaching Every Young Person: Supporting Additional Needs 💙

One of our core goals is to ensure that our programme is accessible and inclusive for everyone. We're particularly proud of our efforts to support young people with additional needs, creating a safe and welcoming environment for all.

  • Total Individuals with Additional Needs: 35

  • Total Sessions for Individuals with Additional Needs: 115

Our data shows that a significant number of participants had additional needs, with a high proportion of sessions dedicated to those with ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). We're committed to tailoring our activities to ensure every child can thrive.

Spreading Our Reach Across Essex 📍

This summer, we cast our net wide, with attendees from all across the county. From Wa;tham Abbey to Walton on the Naze, and from Ipswich to Canvey Island, we brought our unique activities to a wide range of young people.

Thank you to all those parents, grandparents, siblings and carers who made it possible for the young people to participate. This widespread presence is key to making the HAF programme a true community resource.

Thank You, Essex! 🙏

The success of the HAF 2025 programme is a testament to the hard work of our team and the fantastic support we received from Active Essex, Catchy Baits, Angling Direct

and most importantly, the families who participated. We can't wait to see you all again for the next holiday programme!
